About us

The AHRC-funded Midlands3Cities Doctoral Training Partnership (M3C) brings together a dynamic mix of leading universities in the Midlands: the University of Birmingham, Birmingham City University, De Montfort University, University of Leicester, Nottingham Trent University and The University of Nottingham.

Capitalising on the proximity of three major cities, enabling meaningful collaboration across the Midlands region, M3C delivers excellence in all aspects of research supervision and training, and supports innovative projects both theoretical and practice-led.

Committed to interdisciplinary engagement across the full breadth of arts and humanities subjects, M3C provides access to outstanding facilities, cohort events and supervisory teams that reach across our six partner universities. All students and supervisors are connected through M3C's bespoke Virtual Postgraduate Platform (VPP).

Creating a unique environment in which to undertake doctoral research, M3C also works with multiple creative industry and public sector partners, developing placements and professional skills relevant to 21st-century learning and the career aspirations of our postgraduates.

Midlands3Cities is founded on research synergies between our six Midlands universities and the strong links we have with our partners in the creative industries and with employers.

Students apply to M3C knowing they will receive the highest quality PhD supervision, as well as the professional development opportunities that will equip them for their future careers.
